First off, apologies for the extreme lateness of the November episodes. November was an insane month in my personal life (I changed jobs and had an unexpected death in the family) so this episode and the next one took a lot longer than expected to release.
This episode was recorded live with OG co-host Chris on Discord for Patrons right after the Pioneer announcement. The first round of bans hadn’t happened yet but it is an interesting look into what our predictions for the format would be like (we did pretty well).
This episode we dive into Throne of Eldraine’s impact on Modern. Spoiler alert: it is BIG! Ari and I cover what hit, what missed, how to catch that darn gingerbread man, a Spice Rack that’s twice as nice and more!
The numbering got a little weird because last month was a nightmare so the ep is introduced in the recording as 110. There’s 2 “lost episodes” that will be released at some point that fill in that gap.
Ari and I are back and things have changed for the better! Join us for a rousing discussion of bannings, unbannings, The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, what to do when you hate Magic, possible homes for Stoneforge, TWO Spice Rack cards and more!
It’s a whole new world folks!
Thanks for listening and thanks for sticking with us while Hogaak blew over.

We’re playing catch up after a very hectic June so please bear with us. This was recorded pre-Bridge from Below ban so Hogaak was still running roughshod over the format. Core 2020 hadn’t even been fully spoiled. Oh, heady halcyon days!
Anyhoo, Chris and I talk about the highlights and mediumlights of what was out at the time, what we were playing, a leafy green Spice Rack card and more!
Ari and I start the dive into Modern Horizons! Metagame developments, winners and losers, a rundown of superlatives: Most Nostalgia, Top Competitive, Most Likely Legacy/Vintage, Most Excited (Good Cards) and Most Excited (Long Shots)! All that plus new potential archetypes, the Spice Rack card and more!
Team One Thoughtseize has its first player! As a test run we are sponsoring a player from my and Chris’ LGS named Jeff Pyka. He’s a 6 time PT competitor, former Silver Pro, 11th place at PT Ixalan, Top 8 at GP Cinci 2014 and a number of Top 16 finishes at SCG and GP events. This pilot program will run for the MCQ season that feeds MC IV 2019.
